How to Enable the Windows 7 Details Pane at the Bottom of File Explorer

In Windows 7 and Vista, clicking any file immediately displayed its resolution, file size, date modified, album artist, or author across the bottom Details Pane. In Windows 8, 10, and 11, Microsoft replaced this elegant horizontal strip with a vertical side pane that eats into horizontal window space and pushes folder listings off-screen.

Configuration Instructions

1. Open OldNewExplorerCfg.exe (as administrator).
2. Locate the Appearance section.
3. Ensure Show details pane on the bottom is checked.
4. Choose your preferred Status bar style:
   • Default: Clean native style.
   • Alternative / Glass: Sleek transparent border that complements Aero themes.
5. Click Install or close the configuration panel (settings take effect across new Explorer instances).
